I need to have custom jam nuts made as the mating parts have an extra fine J thd and these need to match and no common std parts of suitable quality exist. Need 50 each of these, .3125-32 UNJEF thd, .50 across flats, about .28 thick made of A286 STA. Program rules require parts list to call out stock size and supplier must work with that choice. What would be a preferred stock shape; plate, hex bar, round bar or other? Tolerances about same as typ aerospace std jam nuts.

I'd start with hex bar, but I don't know if there's a local stock of it in that material, so my first call would be to a metals center.

Keep track of the time you waste because of stupid program rules like that one about stock size and form on the drawing.

A286 is stocked in different sizes as hex bar. There are 3 basic flavors, depending on the strength and temperature resistance required:

SAE AMS5732
SAE AMS5737
SAE AMS5853

Here are some potential vendors:

Nice links TVP, thanks!
