What is the properties of the anodized surface?

Can anyone tell me about what properties of the surface of AL6061 after anodizing? Besides, what is the difference between hard anodizing and normal one? Just only the difference in the thickness? Is there any web site tell much about these?

Search for papers by Rateick. He has published some papers on this subject including anodize on 6061 in particular.
