I have been unable to find a clear definition of the ellipsis found in Table A-1 of ASME B31.3 for many materials. Can anyone explain what it means, as well as a location this definition can be found. I have looked high and low without luck.

Thanks in advance.

They are place holders only, intended to make the table easier to read. I.e. treat the entry as "no data".

Whenever a word or symbol is undefined in a spec., one resorts to dictionary definitions. For "ellipses" one finds entries such as:

"(an ellipses) is a mark or series of marks that usually indicate an intentional omission of a word in the original text"

Which I think is about as close to my definition as you can get.

Deducing from the context: "not applicable" or "no information".

Looking at cast iron, no yield is given and there's no P-no given. That's a strong hint.
