Hello,

Ca anyone direct me where to find the Material's Allowable Stress for 2" SA-178-A schedule 40 with design temperature of 700F?

Thanks
Richard

I am guessing here,.... But I believe that this question is about boiler tube

SA178 A is an ERW (electric resistance welded) low carbon steel boiler tube used in super heaters, water wall panels, heat exchangers, condenser

At 700F, this carbon steel tube has a fairly low code allowable stress ....

Correct. This is inside an Economizer. Code B31.3

A178 A isn't shown in B31.3. A179 (same UNS, but seamless) is listed at 12.4 ksi @ 700F. Don't forget to take the 15% hit for ERW.

Great, Thank you. I couldn't find A178 in B31.3 Table 1

SA178 A would probably be in ASME BPVC Section II Part A.

The subject material being intended for use in boiler tubes and being "inside an economizer" sounds to me like equipment vs piping, i.e. ASME BPVC vs B31.3.
