Hi everyone,

I just took over a pressure vessel design project which was half-way done by somebody else. The client wanted me to confirm if the manway fail under the pressure thrust loading calculation.
I have no clue about "pressure thrust loading calculation". Is it the radial force facing outward? Can compress do that?Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance

lake....

Pressure thrust loadings usually come into pressure vessel design where there is an expansion joint attached to a nozzle.

I do not understand how one could be attached to a manway.

I suspect an error in the specification..

Thanks MJC,

My understanding of your explanation is pressure thrust loading calculation is same as WRC-107 Analysis? Am I correct?

Pressure thrust in case of the manway implies the internal pressure of the vessel oonm the blind flange which in turn will stress the nozzle neck.

Please also review PVElite's newsletter on this subject which is informative.

Adding pressure thrust in a WRC analysis is conservative.

Thanks jehan,
sorry for the late reply. I got a much better understanding on this than before. I'm still on learning curve.....
