Hello all.

Last year we ran WF4, mostly on Windows XP systems. This year we are using 32-bit Windows 7 and running WF5. We are seeing less stability, higher memory usage, slower load times, and larger files on disk.

While this is normal for any upgrade, we are puzzled by the significant jump in all of these. WF2->WF3, WF3->WF4 were nearly transparent for us, but WF4->WF5 is much worse.

We're running HP Z400 workstations with Quadro FX1800 graphics cards, WF5 build M050. Our HP configurator tool is optimized for Pro/ENGINEER settings.

I'm interested in your experiences with WF5 and what's helped/hurt your productivity with it.

Our experience with WF5 was similar to yours. We worked with PTC to resolve some of the slowness issues. If you have large family tables (hardware), etc. then many of your problems can be fixed by moving to build code M120 or later.

At M120, new procedures for handling family table data were put in place which drastically reduced load times. Now WF5 performance is on par with WF3 and WF4. Memory usage is still up but not unacceptably so. As for stability, we have had few issues with WF5 itself. Most of our stability issues are more related to our Windchill system than to Pro/ENGINEER.

I support over 200 Pro/E users and there are not significant reports of crashes or other anomalies especially when compared to previous releases. This is just my impression obviously but we do have significant experience with WF5 at my employer.

Also... we've begun to test Creo 1.0 and run it through it's paces. From our initial tests, it's much better than WF5. We have yet to really hammer it, though.

Thanks!
-Brian
