Dear Folks;

Some weeks ago I downloaded the free ansi inch weldment profiles found in Solidworks Content central. This file has all the available ansi standard channels, angles and beams for use in solidworks weldments.

Unfortunately these sizes dont match up to standard channel and beam sizes commonly available in steel service centers all across the USA. These sizes are typically found in AISC handbooks and in handbooks put out by the steel service centers themselves.

I had a situation where I picked a C9 x 8.65 from the Solidworks ANSI Inch library. The closest commercially available size should be C9 x 13.4.

If you use the solidworks ANSI Inch file you could get yourself into some trouble. I notice the CISC profiles provided by solidworks are good. I think solidworks should issue an AISC version with sizes that match what you can buy.

The sizes SW give are per the industry standard (or should be).

What you can buy will depend on where you are, and how much you are prepared to order or pay. On larger projects, larger companies will purchase a mill-run if it makes economic sense.

You say "Solidworks Content central". Do you mean from SolidWorks, or from 3D Content Central? Just to be clear.
A lot of 3D Content Central parts are user added, no checking.
Per CBL, SW parts S/B industry std.
