Is there a way ( reasonable ) to weld basic structural steel sections to structural alumnimum sections....

Say a W8x10 steel beam is the header carrying 2x4 Aluminum sections acting as rafters.

Thanks

No, not by conventional fusion welding processes. You can purchase a transition piece where the aluminum is explosively bonded to steel.

Friction welding and Magnetic Pulse welding have shown some capabilities. Your description sounds like you want a field method, which doesn't exist. Better to use mechanical fasteners and adhesives.
