Welding 316L SST to 316 SST

Does anyone see a problem welding 316L SST to 316 SST. I think we've had it done before (by our welding vendor) but I forget....and I can't reach him for a few days to ask him.

There is no problem in welding of 316L SS to 316 SS. The major consideration is where the 316L is being used for corrosion resistance.
Either weld wire or electrode is ok again the only caveat being the "L" grade is has lower strength. This only applies if there is some constraint and you can't use a full size weld for needed strength.

I agree with that, we routinely weld both 316 to 316L by MIG/MAG, TIG and electrode using 316L type electrodes with no crack problems or appereance problems, we do not do critical structural welding so do not have that worry as unclesyd detailed.
