Can anyone advise on following?
When testing welder to AWS D1.1 is the material an essential variable. As you are testing the welder skill to use consumable & not material.

D1.1 is only applicable to carbon steel and high strength low alloy steel. Qualification using any of the steels listed in Table 3.1 qualifies the welder for any steel listed in D1.1.
