Hello,

When looking at the tube to plate figure for welder certification, is it permissible to drill a hole into the center of the plate? We plan on using this hole to feed gas into the tube. There isn't anything in the spec that says we can't have a hole. Not to mention, once the test is cut up for evaluation, the hole won't matter I believe, as you're examining the weld.

If someone can provide some insight on this, that would be appreciated, thank you!

If the code doesn't say you can't, you can.

Best regards - Al

I have seen this done to feed gas for a test. There were no issues raised. I almost said it goes without saying but I am going to say it anyways. Holes are ok for the test but do not cut holes during the project without the engineers/designers permission.
