We're looking into doing T-joint tensile tests on welded steel specimens (A992 and A 36) but are having a difficult time find testing information? Is there an AWI or ASTM test protocol for such a test? If so what is it?

Thanks in advance,

Not that I am aware of. Tensile testing is performed on a flat welded plate.

Tell us more about your T-joint. Is it a complete joint penetration weld (full-pen)? Or is it a simple fillet weld joining the two base metals?

Hoseman100, can you introduce detail more, so i think which is not enough information for looking for.

What welding code are you working to (if any)?
What is forcing you to perform a tension test on a T-joint?

A question properly stated is a problem half solved.

Always remember, free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it!
