Hi all,

Cladding (Inco 625 - inlay) was performed on component( AISI 4130 material) inside drilling equipment. Due inaccessibility, vendor is not able to UT on it as required by API 6A and client specs.; however, they could perform dye penetrant test only.
The used welding procedures were qualified to ASME IX and vendor is justifying that as per ASME IX, for cladding, UT is not required and only dye penetrant is quite enough.
Then, what all tests are required to qualify WPS for welding with cladding as per ASME IX ?

Regards

metboss,
The requirements for NDT in construction are based on the construction code you are working to - not ASME IX.
What code are you working to ?

Our construction code is API 6A.

metboss,
Just because API 6A and client specifications state UT must be performed does not mean it can be performed if it is inaccessible.
If the joint configuration or location means UT (or RT as an alternative)is impossible then it needs to go to the clients engineers for a decision.

DD

Review Section IX, QW-256.1 for the qualification requirements regarding corrosion resistant overlay.
