I am in the process of designing some water retaining structures including a swimming pool. Does anybody know where I can get some design and construction information with some design examples, preferably in BS standards? Web link, recommended text book etc. would help.

Any useful information would be appreciated.

The structural design should be in accordance with BS 8110 -any good RC text will have the examples you require.

You will also need to satisfy BS 8007 with regard to crack widths, early thermal cracking requirements, limitations on mix design etc.

There is an excellent publication called 'Water retaining structures' by Westbrook and Batty with worked examples to the above codes.

Vanik,
I have already ordered a copy of this book.

VB,
This book you have mentioned is not available with Amazon. Do you know any place from where I can buy this?

Many thanks,

Batty and Westbrook has been out of print for a long time, I think you will have to search the out of print websites. Alternatively you might be more successful if you get a library to borrow it for you.

Another useful book is The Design Of Liquid Retaining Concrete Structures by Robert D Anchor.

The Bitish Library holds copies:
