Hello Friends

I have very basic simple question to ask. How much water capacity does 1 MT storage tank will have(considering dish end as hemispherical)ie. 1 MT storage tank will contain how much liters of water. In that case how much W/C in 50 MT ?

Your kind help will be appreciated.

1 thousand tons.

Which ton? Imperial or metric?

1 tonne of water is 1000 litres of water at 15C within 1%

How full does your tank become? 90%? 95? What is low level? Useful volume isn't the same as nominal capacity.

1 MT = 1 Metric Ton
Unit in Metric System.

I want to check Water Capacity at 100% tank filled. Whereas i propane/LPG is going to be filled at 80-85%, but that is not the case i need to check for Water.

Low level will be 20%.

For Eg:- If tank is 50 MT and Radius is 1.85 meters and Length is 6962 millimeters (Wl to WL) how do i get its total water capacity (considering hemispherical dish end).. let me know if you need some more inputs.

What is the actual shape of the dished end? There are significant volume differences between a dished end and a true-hemispherical end.

How accurate do you need the results?

You threw out diameters (radii) but are these internal diameters, or external diameters?

What formulas have you tried? This is, after all, elementary 3D geometry.

In the example above what does the 50 MT refer to? Volume is a lot lower than 50 m3 of liquid...

H oi we've that is now a lot more than 50 m3

So what is 50T? Working capacity of a tank worth LPG??

This should be a very easy calculation.

@racookpe1978 This is Internal Diameter. This is perfect Hemisphere. At least some empirical formulas will also do.

We know that 1 liter = 1.96 Kg of propane, hence using simple arithmetic converting the same in liters. Further comparing the same with Water. (But i am not sure if its correct)

If your end are a true hemisphere then you have the volume of a sphere to add to the cylinder. Voltage of a sphere is 4/3 pi R^3.

At yr radius of 1.85m that is 26.52 m3
Yr cylinder volume is pi R^2 L = 74.85

Total volume is 101.37 m3 = 101370 litres.

Now that will weigh twice as much as your propane which at 25 C as a liquid has an SG of 0.495.

Your line above is incorrect. 1 litre of water will weigh the same as 1.96 litres of propane.

The 50T referred to is the gross voume of the tank. Most propane tanks are never filled more than 80 to 85% full so your 100 m3 tank will never hold more than about 40 tonnes. Fill it with water though and it will be over 100 tonnes.The tank will be ok as that is how they test the tank but your foundations might not be.

What are you doing with this tank? ??

@LittleInch: Hi and sorry for delay.. I got what you said, well explained. And you are right abt "1 litre of water will weigh the same as 1.96 litres of propane." I have nailed it.

I need to have water capacity for the safety distance. Safety distance is categorized on the basis of W/C.
