hello everyone,
I'm new with NX Nastran and I have a problem. I need to figure out which Nastran solution should be used to simulate forced vibration on a structure that include non linear contact.
My boss asked me to analyze the potential solutions in odder to purchase the needed license. so far I think the only choice is the 701 dynamic explicit solution, any other suggestion on how to simulate this problem?
thank you very much.

I suggest you contact the software supplier's technical salesforce with details of what you are trying to do. In my experience they will be happy to point you in the right direction as far as licenses go, and will probably be able to point you at relevant case studies.

Hi
I agree with Greg regarding the suggestion to contact the vendor. They should be able to help you regarding the required licenses and provide a test license so you can test your specific requirements.

But to give you some information anyway.

In NX Nastran there are actuallt three different non-linear transient solutions. The first comes from the original MSC.Nastran code. Since youy mention contact I can say that in my experience the contact capabilities are limited. Basically you have gap elements that handle node-to-node contact. If that works for you I think it is the cheapest option but it is limited.

Then you have the Advanced Nonlinear option (Adina inside NX Nastran). That handles surface-to -surface contact and has several options for this type of analysis. The capabilities are both static and transient. For transient you can either work implicit (SOL601) or explicit (SOL701). I would prefer to use a implicit solver for a vibration problem since explicit is better for short duration analysis. But it depends on you exact requirements. From a licensing point of view the implicit (SOL601) and explicit (SOL701) are in the same package.

The simple way is probably to ask for a 30 day evaluation license and test it.

Good Luck

Thomas

Thank you very much guys,
after analyzing the requirements of the simulation, we decided to adapt a dynamic explicit method. Now I just need to figure out how to run the simulations cause I read that is quiet tricky to set up an explicit model.
Have a nice day.
