Hello , onboard ship we have installed vacuum breaker in piping which is for discharging liquid overboard.
Does this vacuum breaker only serves to protect the pipe against extensive vacuum which can be created due to siphon effect ?
Is siphon effect something it can damage the pipe if we dont have vacuum breaker installed ? As on the ship we are pumping liquid from one tank to a shore tank or barge,
therefore creating siphon in this piping is not necessary as the pump is pushing ?
Can anyone clear the doubts
TIA
