Hi iam asking about material used in steam piping cs or can ss be used

Yes, either .... and several other materials .. What does your piping spec say ? ...

Was the original piping spec sheets thrown away by previous plant owner ?

ASME B31

Steam piping material selection is temperature dependent. In almost all cases, carbon steels are fine. If you are getting really hot (650F+, depending on the steel), then you might either need to evaluate for creep and/or switch to a chrome moly.

SS is also fine in most normal cases but I wouldn't think most use cases justify the expense.

You typically only see SS used when there is wet steam with condensation or it is high purity being used for sterilization.
As has been said, there are many CS and alloy steels used depending on temperature.

Yes - that is actually the only use case I have ever used stainless in steam piping before. Humidification system for a high purity aerospace application.

It depends on the temperature of your pipeline. Generally speaking, stainless steel valves can withstand temperatures below 350 degrees Celsius.
