Does anyone have any experiences that they can share using any of the above tools (or others if similar) in conjunction with Pro/E to create stylized, complex surface models from digitized data?
The thought (being recommended by a number of vendors) is that these packages are much more "surfacing friendly" than Pro/E and should be used at the front end to manipulate the "cloud of points" generated by scanning a physical model. These surfaces are then ported to Pro/E (via IGES?) and Pro/E can then be used to add Engineering data (like what?) and to create drawings (which these packages are not as good at). The potential pitfalls surround the "changability" of the imported surfaces. Are they "dumb" as far as Pro/E is concerned? How are changes handled (cut out chunks and replace with new surfaces? Go back to the other s/w?).
Even general experience with Pro/E strictly as a surfacing tool would be beneficial. At first blush it looks less friendly than some Industrial Design-type tools.
For that matter, maybe Pro/E is the wrong tool all together and someone can offer an opinion on what tool is the right thing to use for reverse engineering complex surfaced shapes.
