When I installed SW2008 at home, my Cadman 3d controller stopped working - SW2008 ended up blocking a DLL file that was too old.
There is a work around that worked for me. (This is not endorsed by 3DConnexion, but I do not feel like laying out 100's of dollars for a new device for home.)
Here's what to do: Install the(old) driver file for the device, but not the SW plugin. In my case the device driver is 2.8.2. If the SW plugin is installed, uninstall it from the control panel. Then download the current device driver, say 3.5.5 and unpack it with Winrar. Install the SW plugin only.
Cadman works perfectly in SW2008. I've read online that this works on serial devices too. My Cadman is USB.
Good luck
