Use of Timber in Concrete Design

Has there ever been a code provision or published design method for using round timbers as the tensile component of a beam in a concrete floor system? I am looking for anything to compare an existing building against.

I have heard of an experimental composite slab that was constructed near Pretoria in South Africa using a technique like yours. As far as I recall, the person who can give you details is Prof Walter Burdzik at Univ Pretoria email brensbur@postino.up.ac.za
I doubt that any design code exists.

This is a really fascinating concept. I wonder how the timbers go for development length, etc? I'm watching this thread with interest.

I have heard that the Chinese once used bamboo as tensile reinforcing and even formed hooks in it.

Also I think palm frond ribs have been tried.
