Hi,

Could I some advices about UPS load test (burn-in test)?
Is it common to do the burn-in test with reactive load, with both leading and lagging power factor load, given the UPS is specified to e.g. 0.8 leading and lagging power factor without de-rating? I just wonder if all the UPS manufacturer's support this type of test in their factory or on site.

It's more typical to use resistive load banks. I suppose you could use a reactive load bank...I personally have never seen it done.

Purpose: Verify that the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system can function at the rated load in conditions of ambient room temperature.
Procedure: The procedure involves loading the UPS to its rated load and operating it for anywhere between eight and twenty-four hours, depending on the needs of the requirements.

To me, if the rated load is at some power factor other than unity the load test must also occur at a non-unity power factor.
 
Once did a comprehensive commissioning test of a data center that included a 300kW UPS. In order to test out everything, UPS, HVAC, etc. the contractor had to go purchase a pallet load (200) of 1.5kW heaters. All plugged in and all on high. 300kW of heat being dumped into the room. HVAC removing 300kW of heat. One of the things we proved was that the 30 minute run time of the UPS was way more than adequate because if the emergency generator didn't start the room was well above 90F in around 10 minutes.
