I need to calculate the uplift force on a roof for a new home. Any good reference books where I can get a good feel for what I should look for and the methodology to follow?

uniform building code has requirements and methodology for calculating uplift. you may have to meet the requirements in this code (or something very similar)

The florida building code 2001 which can be viewed online has a very detailed methology for wind loading including uplift. You will need to know the required wind velocity for your area. You should also be aware that overhangs, three sided buildings, and other non-conventional configuration will greatly increase the wind uplift on a structure.

The easiest method on a new home is to review the truss sheets.

Schnaper, Where can it be viewed?
