I know this isn't specific to ProE but I have a drawing in front of me with a symbol I've never seen before and you all are the best source I have. I attached an image of the drawing view and the symbol I'm referring to has a red box around it. The part is a small brass pulley.

Would anyone be able to tell me what this means? Thanks.

Looks like a surface finish, Rz is the DIN finish (equivalent to 0.34Ra).

There are many surface roughness parameters in addition to the default Ra:

Rq, Rt, Rv, Rp, Ry, Rmax, Rz, etc., etc.

Rz is one you have to be very careful with because there are multiple definitions for it depending on what standard is being used. The ISO definition is completely different from the DIN one.

While there are general rules of thumb scaling the different parameters to each other, they are quite imprecise. As a rule, you can not convert one to another.

Thanks guys for the clarification. Much appreciated!

Hi,
this mark for surface quality may also represent type of machining, and surface treatment. Of course if you need to identify machining process.
So if You work in factory be carefull if you making technology process :)
