Truncating Tolerance Limits 1

Would the terminology "Truncating" apply to the term rounding as well? Seems I remember if you have a tolerance of +/- .01 you can accept parts up to +.019 over the nominal, they excused that as truncating the tolerance. Anyone that can add to this?

If your goal is to comply with the ASME GD&T standard then pmarc's response in the link you provided is the answer. a tolerance of +/-.01 is the same as +/-.010 and +/-.0100 and so on.

Truncation is usually done for tolerances given in secondary units of measure - this way the secondary unit tolerance is always smaller than the primary.

Otherwise there is no rounding or truncating applied to the interpretation of dimensions and tolerance limits.

Consider them the way you would like to pay for things. If the price is $10 would you accept being charged $19.99 or even $14.99?
