True Position?

I have three holes on a common centerline. I want to maintain a close distance to the centline with respect to each other. However, I can allow the centerline a large tolerance from the edge of the plate. If I apply a large tolerance from the centerline to the edge won't each hole be allowed to differ from the centerline by that tolerance via 14.5? How do I dimension the drawing to accomplish my goal.

Take a look at composite tolerancing. Specifically, Fig 5-19 and Fig 5-20 on pages 96-106 of ASME Y14.5M - 1994

Yeah, ASME will sell you an ASME Y14.5-2009 for $169.00, or less if you're a member. It's "spendy" as they say in Oregon and Wisconsin, but you should have one.

Thanks CheckerRon. So used to having a copy on hand, - the auxillary web references are rarely at the fingertips. One to add to that list of old designer recollections: If you're going to stay in the business, buy some tools.
