Sometimes a feature is projected in a drawing view, such that it is not perpendicular to the viewing plane. And dimensions referencing these non-perpendicular features will be based on the foreshortened lengths. This can be fixed by editing the dimension to show the true length, instead of the projected length.
This is common when dimensioning isometric views.
