Hi,
It is my fisrt post here, so I´m going to introduce myself shortly: My name is Rafael and I´m a Msc civil engineer from Spain, and I work doing structural calculations.
My doubt this time is the next:
Is it compulsory by the EN 1991-3 (Actions induced by cranes and machinery) to take in account any transverse horizontal load to calculate a runway beam for a monorail hoist block underslung?
The EN 1991-3 from 2006, English version says:
"2.5 Load arrangements/2.5.1 Monorail hoist blocks underslung from runway beams/2.5.1.2 Horizontal forces/(1) In the case of fixed runway beams for mononorail underslung trolleys, in the absence of a more accurate value, the LONGITUDINAL horizontal forces should be taken as 5 % of the maximum vertical wheel load, neglecting the dynamic factor."
So it talks about LONGITUDINAL loads but I haven´t seen any comment about TRANSVERSE forces, so isn´t compulsory to take in account transverse horizontal actions in this case of a runway beam for a monorail hoist block underslung?
Many thanks in advance
Regards
Rafael
