Hello,
Is there anyone out there that would have a "Modal Damping Factor" table for different types of structures, ex steel, aluminum, welded, joints? I am still new to Ansys and FEA and have done a Transient analysis of a very long bolted pipe section with heavy metal components, bolted connections with a pressurized transient and I have no references of what damping factors to use.
Thank you...
Vince

Hi Vince,

I am doing modal superposition analyses and I need the modal damping factors too.

I think, there exist no such thing like tables. The only way is to optimize the modal damping, if you have some messurements of the structure you want to analyse, until you get the desired structure response. You can do this by using some optimizer routine. Ansys have a parameter optimization module too.

The problem with the optimization is that you often have many damping factors, so you must know which of them plays an important role.

Regards,
Alex
