transformer inrush current 1

I want to measure the primary inrush current of 3phase 5MVA transformer at noload condition. according to transformer basic, it would be very negligible ammount.is it true in practical cases?

The initial inrush current could be very high depending on the switching point in the cycle while the steady no-load current for such a big trafo would be about 1% of its FLC.

The inrush current is a result of magnetic field build up in the primary winding of the transformer and will be high depending on the switching point. You would expect the worst case to be 12 times the primary full load current for about 100ms even when there is no load on the secondary.

The response of your measuring instrument has to be good and should capture peak current.

Especially when there is no load on the secondary. Load doesn't affect the peak much, but does help in the damping.
