Hello All,
I work for a cutting tool manufacturer who uses UGV18, and I'm looking for a method to balance tooling by design, and I was curious if there was a way to accomplish this using UG?? Most tools are simple to balance by design, but every once in a while we come across a non symmetrical situation that may require material removal.....my question is always how much and from where?? Does anyone know of a method to accomplish this virtually within UGV18??

Thanks in Advance for any help!!!

Do a mass analysis on your model, there is an option to model a point on the CG. The CG must lie on the axis of rotation. As far as how much material to remove and from where, depends on if you are doing single plane balancing or double plane balancing - a text on vibrations should have the necessary equations.

Static unbalance can be determined if you know the weight of the part and the displacement of the mass center from the geometric axis. In this case, U, is equal to the weight, w, of the work piece times the displacement, e.
