Dear Experts,

In general, is there tolerance applicableto test pressure as per code for piping system? Such as minus 0 and plus 5% of test pressure is the tolerance.

What a fuzzy subject. The codes are silent on this. Company practice is all over the map. My recomendation is always that the engineer designing the test develop and clearly specify the acceptable tolerances for that test as part of the written test procedure. I've had that technique satisfy internal and DOT auditors.

We have always used 5%. All AI's tend to want to stay on the
plus side if there is any problems.
I've seen more questions concering the gauges than the pressure.
Always use good calibrated gauges with the desired pressure midrange.
