Hi guys,

I have been asked to provide a timber bollard with a concealed connection. I have this typical detail that I am following (attached), the difference is I am using a timber bollard.

I plan on either screwing or chemically fixing a stud into the centre of the bollard and then chemically anchoring that stud to a drilled hole in the concrete slab.

Are there any problems with doing this, such as splitting of the timber bollard or strength issues when load is applied to the bollard.

All comments will be appreciated.

Do anyone have a typical detail they use for this application?

Rather than use polyurethane base, can you use a 2" or 3" thick SS base that is secured and that is threaded to match threads on the bollard? The bollard can be secured using a thread bonding material to prevent removal. The SS bollard will likely get hot in the summer (too hot to touch) and depending on climate, very cold in the winter.

The use of the polyurethane plug at the top will prevent 'rusting' from welding a plate over the end. Make sure the material has antiozonators snd UV blocking chemicals.

I was looking at the sketch and it is covered by Patent 752762. What is patented and when? None of it looks like an original work.

Other than decorative, the wall thickness will not hold up to any abuse.

Judging by the layout detail in the top right of the drawing it looks like its only intended to provide protection for shopping trolleys (copyright Coles Supermarkets and 'refrigeration case')

I probably would just make a steel casing with bottom capped fit around the wooden bollard. Leave a gap for grout and sealant on top.

Yes, the bollard I attached is for Coles supermarkets. I wanted to steal their detail using a timber bollard in-lieu of a stainless steel one.
