Tilt Panel Wall with Varying thickness

Can a tilt panel wall have a varying thickness? I have a girder beam bearing on a tilt panel. The rest of the panel is 7-1/4" thick but at the gider beam I need it to be 9-1/4" thick. Can the panel be formed on the field or will it be difficult for the contractor?

It probably would add to staging coordination and costs as the panels couldn't be stack-cast with the pilaster section included.

One idea would be to have two construction joints on either side of the pilaster - letting the pilaster be an infill cast-in-place section that is constructed after the two adjacent panels (which would be flat) are erected. If this detail/condition is prevalent throughout the project, then all the special forming and placement might be worse than a series of cast-in pilasters.

Could be cheaper to have the whole panel built to the thickest section and be done with it !

I'm going to have to disagree with JAE and civeng on this one. It is not uncommon to have pilasters of increased thickness at a girder. A contractor with tilt-wall experience should not have an issue making this work.

I have designed panels with differing thicknesses on numerous occasions. Really not an issue. A pilaster on the inside face may require a hanging form (since the inside will likely be cast up).

I didn't say it couldn't be done - or isn't done - only that it does add to more complex forming and some cost difference.

Probably depends on where you are. I wanted that done once, and the contractor just said to "get real". He said to make it all the same thickness or he would have to have the odd panels made off site.

Its really all about economics.
Its not uncommon here in Australia to get a response like Hokkie66.
