Hello everybody,

I read in several places "three-dimensional forging" being mentioned. Can anybody tell me what it is? How is it defined? Does it have any benefitial/negative effect on materials´ mechanical properties?

This is also called three-axis forging, which means that the raw material (billet, ingot, etc.) is forged along all three of its axes in order to create a uniform microstructure with minimal isotropy. Here is a patent that describes the process, which is not limited to any particular material or product form (round, square/rectangle, etc.):
