I am remodeling my daylight garage/ basement into a family area and am considering overlaying the existing slab with a thin concrete slab with hydronic heating. If I choose this course, the overlay needs to be as thin as possible. The existing SOG is in generally excellent condition with no serious cracks or visible moisture problems. If the overlying slab is to be finished and sealed as a wearing surface, how thin a slab is prudent? If I choose to cover the overlay with with ceramic tile can the thickness be reduced?
