Dear Members,

I am designing a Loose-Type Flange in accordance with ASME Section VIII Division 1, Mandatory Appendix 2, Figure 2-4, Sketch (4).

I am in doubt whether we can consider the thickness of the shell + small end hub as g0 or it is only the thickness of the shell for g0.

Please see the sketch below for reference.

For a loose-type flange g0 is the"thickness of hub at small end" as defined in clause 2-3, so neither of the dimensions in your sketch. See Figure 2-4 Detail (1) or (2).

The neck thickness is only considered for optional or integral flanges.

Are you sure about the O-Ring design?

So, if I change the design to optional type as per sketch (8a), can it consider the total small end hub + shell thickness as g0?

I believe also it is applicable for weldneck design, in a case that the neck thickness is higher than the shell thickness, can we consider the neck thickness as g0, instead of the shell thickness for g0?

The O-Ring design is project requirement.
