i am building a 79 capri and i am putting a pretty healthy 351w in it i want the overdrive because i am running 4:10 gears....i am looking for any free mods that i can do to help it with the way that it shifts sloppy......is there anything that can be done to the valve body or the seperator plate to help this problem

Do a websearch on "AOD Upgrades", you'll turn up several outfits that make an upgraded shift body and/or parts. The '90-up OD servos were stronger than earlier ones used with "normal" V8's, even stronger than the Police/Taxi servos in pre-'90.

If yours has throttle linkage (not cable) be advised that setting the linkage correctly is ultra-important, to the point that a misadjusted linkage can burn up the trans in 100 miles!

I think his qualifier that rules out kits is the word free

If you modify the transmission and mess it up, or, skip the modification and fry it, things will no longer be free. A shift kit and decent trans cooler are among the best longevity investments one can make. Neither one has to be expensive.

I completely agree with both your posts.
