Temperature Loads on Foundations

In designing pipe racks, is it required to transfer the thermal effects (thermal loads on steel due to change in temperature) on its foundations? Please cite any references if you have.

I've been trying to look on to several references like PIP but I can't find any which discusses specifically the thermal effects on the structure transferred to the foundation.

If you look at PIP STC01015,

Sec 4.2.1 General
Buildings, structures, equipment, vessels, tanks, and foundations shall be designed for the following:

...

If you want PIP as your basis, see Sec 4.2.2.5. for piperack load combinations. You will notice that T (the one you are asking about) is in the load combinations to be used in designing your structural elements (i.e. foundations).

Yep. I think I've noticed that. In our practice, we only use thermal loads due to temperature differentials in our steel structures (i.e. pipe racks) but we do not transfer it in our foundations. But now, my lead is requesting me to provide a reference with regards on how to deal with such thermal forces (if we must transfer the thermal forces on the foundation or not).

Like for example, friction loads (not anchor friction) are applied on the steel structure but not transferred on foundation. Note that friction forces are also stated on PIP STC01015.
