I work with NX 7.5
and I need a symbol, rectangle with 2 oval ends with number in it. Another symbol is the same but with black ends. We put it beside each dimension and use to refer to specific dimension when on the phone call.
How I can create such a symbol.
I never did, so to be really helpful please give me instruction step by step, if possible.

Thanks a lot

What type of symbol is similar to the one you desire? Is it a User-Defined Symbol, a Custom Symbol or something else? The steps to create a symbol are different depending upon the symbol type you want.

For myself, if I never plan to use this symbol within a line of text (as Annotation), then I'd create a custom symbol. The how-to's are available in the NX documentation under Custom Symbol.

It is rectangle c.4 x 8 mm with oval two side... and the number is in

I would like to create my own symbol stating from nothing.

I just figured out how to make a symbol, so it is OK.
But how I can add a number to the symbol so after inserting many of them into the drawing I can just double click (or .. edit) and change the number

Now that I see your description of the symbol, maybe a Balloon set to Rounded Rectangle might work better as well as be faster than creating a new Custom Symbol.

For the Balloon, enter the size of 8 and I'm guessing letting height of 2 - if not, use whatever height you want, but the taller you make it, the taller the Balloon will become.

For a Custom Symbol with editable text, you'll have to draw the geometry and place the note where it needs to go. When you're in the Define Custom Symbol dialog, set the Text Attributes pulldown to Arbitrary. This will allow you to change the text value to whatever you want.

All the info you need for Custom Symbol is in the NX Help docs under CAD -> Drafting -> Custom Symbols (at least that's what it is in NX9).

Either method should give you what you want. See the attached - the top one might be what your 4 X 8 Custom Symbol looks like after you go through the steps of defining the Custom Symbol correctly. The bottom shows an 8mm Balloon for comparison. Either way will probably give you what you want (if the shape is correct).

Thanks a lot, I made it.
Now the problem is how to save that symbol into the library so I can use it on other drawings too?

That's probably going to depend on how you have some of the NX defaults set up as well as if you have permissions to change those defaults.

If you don't, just open a new part without any templates (if possible), recreate the symbol and set the symbol library to part. Define the symbol, etc. and then place 1 symbol in that part and save it somewhere easily accessible. To use it in another file, just open the saved part & copy/paste the symbol into the destination part. That's what I have to do because my NX admins like to lock the users out of everything (for the most part).
