I want to increase the swap space on my machine (windows xp prof) 3.2Ghz 1.0 Gig RAM. I came across some documentation form PTC and Microsoft telling how to change the settings but what scared me was the "messing" with the BOOTINI file. Please let me know if anyone has tried it and have been successful or ran into problems. Thanks.

I apologize the subject should have been "SWAP SPACE SETTING".

CTRL Panel - Performance and Maintenance - System - Advanced tab - Performance - Advanced tab - Virtual Memory - Change.

I would recommend a fixed size for the page file (swap space), otherwise you will end up with fragmentation issues on your hard-drive.

I've mucked around with this setting lots - really zero risk. Note that the maximum addressable memory (actual + virtual) to any one program is 2GB, unless you invoke the /3GB switch when starting up XP. Check out the Microsoft KB on that setting.

Good luck!

No problem, its definately worth doing to reduce potential memory problems.

If you're worried just save the current boot.ini file as say boot.old and then you can always go back to it if you want.

All I did was add "/3GB" at the end of the last line of the boot.ini file.

Thanks TGS4 and crisb will try it.
