Anyone experiencing bizarre behavior in file sizes creeping up for no reason? Small parts aren't an issue but I had a part that was about 110MB from SW2006 that's up to 472MB w/o much for changes. We've reported and captured the issue with our VAR and is being sent to SW.

Was it the same size when orginally brought into SW2007? Or did it grow after like you stated?

After it had been converted and saved it is smaller to start with but increases with each save. You can actually just re-open and do nothing but save and the file size will keep increasing.

Try the hotfix and see if that helps:

SolidWorks File Size
Model file size in SolidWorks 2007 has been reduced. Models with many configurations typically show the largest reduction in size.

Model files from previous releases are smaller after they are first saved. However, because of an issue in the Windows XP operating system, modifying a model returns it to its original SolidWorks 2006 file size. A hotfix (Knowledge Base ID 922668) is available at

I heard talk that CATIA V5 did something like this. Do you think something is hosing up in the memory?

Unfortunately, Microsoft has discovered a problem in their original hot fix, described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article ID 922668 on the Microsoft web site ( Therefore, a new hot fix will be provided by Microsoft, which will also have a new Microsoft Knowledge Base ID number. A further announcement will be posted when the new hot fix becomes available from Microsoft.

The above note was on the SW support site, but has been removed. I have not seen or heard of the updated hotfix availability yet.

I am running the 922668 hotfix and have not noticed any problems yet, but have not done any heavy duty work with SW07-SP1 to date.

Thanks for the heads up guys. We'll just use EcoSqueeze when the files get out of control for the time being.

We too have seen the file size problem. We have reported it to our VAR and did receive an SPR#. I'm not at work now so I cannot give the number.

Is anyone else running the 922668 (original) hotfix?
How are the file sizes?

So far the hotfix is working fine for me. In some cases the files are smaller than in SW06 ... as they should be.

The hofix can be downloaded from;

Going to have to try this hotfix. Will this need to be uninstalled in the future then?

We won't know till Microsoft issues the new hotfix.

Not sure if this is a coincidence or side benefit but SW 07 is now using less system ram. I was using around 280Mb ram (solidworks.exe ctrl+alt+delete) before the hotfix, but now I am hovering around 122Mb. ram. System seems to be running a little faster.
