I am running SW04-SP2.1 ... I recently modelled a panel (much like a diffusion panel in flourescent lights) which was 5.5" wide x 22" long x .5" thick. Into this panel I cut a square thru hole, then patterned that hole across the width & length (11 x 44). The pattern feature took about 3 seconds to build itself ... so far so good. However, when I applied a material to the panel, the rebuild time was about 10 minutes!

Anyone else had this problem or can explain it? I have not seen or heard of it before, but the same thing happens on 3 P4-2.4GHz computers ... 2 with nVidia Quadro FX500, 1GB RAM and 1 with ATI Radeon 7000, 512MB RAM.

I have created parts that way, but no problem. I'm assuming you have a part not assy? Just curious, have you tried creating the part with extruded holes (not patterned) to see if the rebuild time changes?

Yes it is a part. Have not tried with all extruded holes ... I assume you mean by patterning a sketch, then doing an extrude-cut. I will try tomorrow.

And hey ... it's good to see I'm not the only one without a (Saturday night) life.

Depending on how many holes you cut, your system has to keep track of all mathematical stress and strength characteristics of the new solid, as well as transparancy, reflection and refraction for each surface. Resolve the component lightweight, Set the display settings for that part very low, or suppress the cut feature when not needed.
