SW 2009 suddenly starts Crashing on startup

We have been experiencing startup problems with our two new workstations since we upgraded to SP 3.0, sometimes it takes up to twenty tries before it starts running and then all is stable. Our VAR is still investigating, but I have just found out that MS Auto Updates coincidentally upgraded the browsers to IE8 and there's an issue with the RSS feeds, see below:

We have rolled back one machine to IE7 and the problem has gone, will try the RSS fix on the other machine soon.

Thanks for the links to the additional info.

What's dissapointing me, WAS the fact that it appeared to be a known issue; because this was a week after we first reported the problem to our VAR, and it was a mystery to them, so they had us running rings, describing it and trying to trying to get an RX video (which of course it won't because SW doesn't load). We are paying them £2400 a year for support, but we get far more problem resolution and satisfaction from Eng-Tips and self help!!
