Subtract - Multiple Solid bodies with a single tool 1

I have a number of ribs (solid bodies) spaced evenly and I want to used another body (thickened sheet surface) which intersects all these ribs to be subtracted out of the ribs in on operation. Its this possible.

I know that the Subtract Boolean operation only accepts one target body.

Any solution or do I have to do this one at a time for all the ribs!

What version of NX are you using and is it your intention that this will be a single part file when you're done or are you creating an assembly?

Hi JRB,

I'm using NX v7.5 and yes my intention is to have this as a part file.

After this problem is solved it would be interesting to know how you would approach converting this to an assembly though.

Try using a 'Trim Body' operation instead of a Boolean subtract, as shown in the attached example. Just unsuppress the Trim Body feature to see the result or try it yourself (Select all the ribs and then just select the top face when you're asked to select a 'Face or Plane'.).

I have the thickened sheet cutting some of the ribs only half way. So I might have to extend the sheet surfaces a bit before I can use the trim tool. I am not at work anymore so can't try it now. But I did remember abandoning the trim body because of some reason like that.

Could any of the synchronous modeling operations be used to achieve a similar effect like replace face on multiple ribs?

See attached model for an example where the face does not go all the way. Play back the model to see how it was done.
