HI,

I have this problem to share.
I have a line to test, with operating temp uguals -150 / +20, and design temp equals -180 / +200,

in paragraph 319.3.1, ASME, expresses the concept of max metal temp and min metal temp, while in appendix S, uses the operating temp..

witch temp I use for stress range?

-150 + 20
or
-180 +200 ?

in the first case the delta is 170 c in other case is 380 c.

thanks

D

Read the Code ,whichever one it is, as you do not mention. It clearly states what temperature you should use for the stress analysis!!!!

Review B31.3, read para 301.2 (Design pressure - general) and 301.3 (Design temperature)
