I have a client who is requesting a steam injection Fire Protection System to a storage silo.I think that what he actually means is a Deflegration Supression System. I have read NFPA 69 and I think I grasp the concept, however I have no experience in designing this type of system and I would appreciate any help that can be given.

For your information the product stored within the silo is wood by product, the steam for the system will be supplied from the Boiler which is located right next to the silo, the client also requires automatic operation by UV/IR Detectors.

Any advice/direction would be greatly appreciated can any one help??

I think some owners have also referred to this as a steam snuffing system. Hope you figure it out, but let me warn you about another problem. Remember that the silo will become slightly pressurized too, so be sure to consider a design pressure when specifying the design conditions for the silo. The opposite problem may also develop, these silos sometimes see vacuum conditions too. I'm guessing it's due to steam condenstation without adequate venting. Some owners of wood chip bins have had their bins partially collapse due to this vacuuum problem.
