Can we use stellite/WC coating for DSS ?

Is this really required? If not, then is it a acceptable ??

Yes

If not specified as a requirement by the end user, the supplier will determine the need based on the application, the service conditions and the warranty requirements. If it is not required, why use it?

To further the discussion, kolsterising could achieve a similar outcome.

The difficulty with weld overlay on a duplex is that you will tend to form lots of detrimental secondary phases. So when you do eventually get failure of the overlay the metal exposed will be much more susceptible to corrosion than the bulk alloy.
Some of the low temp surface treatments that caburize, nitride, or nitrocarburize below 600F can be used on these alloys. The treatment times are long (20-50 hrs) and the layers are thin. But they are very corrosion resistant and they are very hard.

The wear resistant materials can be applied to the duplex substrate by thermal spray technology.

Our vendor is offering Stellite coating through Laser Welding.... The stellite thickness is merely in the range of 75-100 microns.

The base metal temperature (might be my assumption) will not go above recrystallization temperature.

What detrimental effect would the base metal have ?

Can we not use this laser beam technique which is welding however may not have same effect as welding on base/parent metal?
