Hi
I used Sap 2000 v14 for steel modeling .
I modeled a 7 story building .The x Direction frame is moment frame and the Y Direction frame is simple frame with bracement.
But after the run, beams of moment frame had negligible shear and moment near zero.
the quastion is why?plz help me.
Am I modeling this buiding wrong?plz help.
thanks

How could anyone know if you are modeling the building wrong when you have given just about no information as to what you did to model the building?

ok.Which information do you need to recognize this problem?
I am ready to answer....

With the information you provided, the answer to your question "Am I modeling this buiding wrong?" is yes.

Just an advice: don't be lazy with your questions, or everybody else won't bother to give you any answer.

You can enter such situation either through neglecting the lateral load in the X direction whilst the vertical loads go to the beams in the Y system. You can have almost the same if you have modeled quite competent reinforced concrete cores or shearwalls even if you have the on X lateral loads well. You may also have inadvertently fixed the on X lateral deflection through any of the devices in the program, linking nodes and/or diaphragms etc.

Normally on a good model and 7 stories tall, if there is nothing rigid fixing or sustaining the moment frame, there should show enough moment frame action as to meet equilibrium with the loading, as you expect.

O.K..... I have a question, a needed information, for your answering; which way is up on your model, and in your world for that matter? I’m having some trouble seeing your model from here.

The scary thing about these kinds of scenarios is that the availability of various software packages allows these people to pretend they are Structural Engineers or Engineers in general, without the foggiest idea of what engineering and real design are all about. Then, something might actually be built off something they call a design and set of plans. One hopes that the only party who learns a lesson from any mishaps is the computer jockey. Unfortunately, in many instances other parties get deceived and may get hurt too.
