Can you get headed studs in stainless? Are they designed like a normal headed stud? or can normal carbon steel headed studs be welded to stainless steel without problem?

In addition is there a fastener like Tapcon that is available in stainless steel?

Thanks, Dik

Thanks... I didn't know that Tapcons come in SS.

Can carbon steel headed studs be welded to SS plate? The movie shows it can be done. Thanks, again...

Is there a commercial product that can be used for passivating stainless steel weld. It's such a 'common' connection that there should be a commercial product.

The connection looks like this:

Dik, I've had contractors use this stuff before: https://www.derustit.com/products/wonder_gel.php

This was used for field welds. I don't know what is used in the shops on fabricated pieces, but our specifications require P&P on any welded element.

And yes from my understanding SST can be welded to carbon. Can't say I've done it. I usually try to find a way to avoid that. More from my lack of understanding than it really being an issue.

I would recommend Elco (now owned by Dewalt) Bi-Flex 300 series stainless steel screws - Ductile body with hardened tip, better for hydrogen corrosion embrittlement/HSCC

I think the SS Tapcons are 410 grade which still rusts pretty easily

Thanks... I'll look into them; I was planning on using Tapcons but these could be better. The client would not like rust.

What is the purpose of the screws? Just wondering if there isn’t a better method of attachment, the screws for concrete have a nasty habit of snapping when installing and the heads get beat up on install

There's another part of the project that requires them...

I was talking to a welder and they often use 306 wire; I have to check what this product is and what the actual spec for it is.

I wonder if you could use flush concrete insert anchors and a flush machine screw.

FWIW - The Biflex screws come in under-cut head (though the number of options is somewhat limited)

Thanks for the info, gentlemen... I didn't realise there were so many available...

I just realized I gave you a metal to metal "Tek style" screw. But Dewalt does make the Agge-gator, which is similar to the Bi-flex, but for concrete / masonry. My apologies for the confusion.
